Tile Roofing in Moreno Valley and the Inland Empire
Tile is everywhere in Southern California for good reason. Clay and concrete tile handle our heat and UV better than almost anything else and can last for decades. J & R Elite Roofing installs, repairs, and relays tile roofs across Moreno Valley, Riverside, and the Inland Empire.
Here is the thing most homeowners do not know: on a tile roof, the tile is usually not what fails. The underlayment beneath it is. Tile can outlive two underlayments, which is why the right repair is often not a new roof at all.

Tile Work We Handle
- Lift and relay with new underlayment, reusing your existing tile
- Broken and slipped tile replacement, including profile matching
- New clay and concrete tile installation
- Flashing, valley, and penetration repair under tile
- Underlayment replacement on roofs where the tile is still sound
- Structural assessment where tile weight is a question
Licensed, insured, and GAF certified, with a free written estimate before any work begins.
Lift and Relay: The Repair Most People Have Not Heard Of
If your tile is in good shape but you are getting leaks, the underlayment underneath has almost certainly failed. A lift and relay means we carefully remove the tile, replace the underlayment and flashing, and put your original tile back down.
It costs considerably less than a full tile replacement because you are not buying new tile, and it resets the clock on the part of the system that actually wears out. Any tile that breaks in the process gets replaced with a match. For a lot of Inland Empire homes with original tile, this is the correct answer rather than a full reroof.

Tile Roofing Options and What They Suit
Concrete Tile
The most common tile in the Inland Empire. Durable, cost effective, and available in a wide range of profiles and colors.
Clay Tile
The classic Spanish and Mediterranean look. Excellent longevity and holds its color well under our sun.
Underlayment
The layer that actually determines when your tile roof needs work. Modern underlayments substantially outlast older felt.
Broken Tile Repair
Cracked and slipped tiles let water reach the underlayment. Individual replacement is quick and prevents bigger problems.
What Goes Wrong on Tile Roofs Here
Foot traffic is the biggest one. Tile is strong vertically but cracks when someone steps in the wrong place, and satellite installers, solar crews, and painters break more tile than weather does. Cracked tile then lets water onto underlayment that was never meant to be the primary barrier.
The other issue is age. Underlayment on a roof installed decades ago is well past its service life even though the tile above it looks perfect. If your tile roof is original and you are seeing leaks, the underlayment is where to look before anyone talks you into a full replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tile Roofing
Straight answers to what property owners ask us most.
The underlayment beneath the tile has almost certainly failed. Tile sheds most water but the underlayment is the actual waterproof layer, and it wears out long before the tile does.
We remove your existing tile, replace the underlayment and flashing underneath, and reinstall the same tile. It costs much less than new tile and fixes the part of the system that actually failed.
Usually yes. We match profile and color as closely as possible, and on discontinued profiles we can often source salvage or relocate tile from a less visible slope.
Up front, yes. Over the life of the roof the comparison narrows considerably because tile lasts far longer, and in our climate it handles heat and UV much better.
We would rather you did not. Tile cracks under a misplaced step, and the cracks are easy to miss from the ground. If something needs checking, let us get up there.
Most homes here that already have tile obviously will. If you are switching from shingle to tile, the weight difference is real and we will assess the structure before recommending it.
The tile itself can last many decades. The underlayment underneath is the limiting factor, which is why relays exist. Maintained properly, a tile roof is one of the longest lasting options available.
